Well the table is now set for a scary scenario in the oval office….. Mitt Romney, the last describable conservative in the presidential race, is gone. This leaves those of us who are right with a choice between one of the most liberal republicans in recent memory and a fairly unelectable populist. Unfortunately the choice on the other side is frankly obscene….
God knows what will happen to our great country. He knows who will win this election. He knows what decisions will be made and what the implications will be… He knows because he directs the actions.
God’s hand has been on this nation since before its inception. I recently revisited a story that happened during the War of 1812… The British had invaded Washington, D.C. President Madison had fled on horse back to protect the country’s leadership. The English troops set fire to the White House, the Capital, the Library of Congress, and many other governmental buildings. The glow of the flames could be seen 50 miles away. Suddenly, a freak hurricane hit D.C. point blank, followed by a tornado… The rain extinguished the flames and the tornado decimated the British troops. There can be no doubt that the hand of God intervened to save our capital and our nation.
This primary season has been a learning & growing experience for me… I was initially distraught with the voting of my fellow countrymen… I was almost AlecBaldwining it in my mind… Swearing I’d leave the country if I could… (not really, I just wanted to say AlecBaldwining it) Then I had a moment of God-given clarity… It is in God’s hands my friends; it is beyond our ability to direct.
It is to us the faithful to remain so..
My Florida Primary, Rudy abandonment hung over blog entry pointed to a defeated conservative ready to throw in the towel and accept a possible McCain Presidency. True, LibMac would be a slightly better alternative to B.O. or Billary, however, I say the fight for America is not over! There is an alternative to the populism of Huckabee, the Liberalism of McCain, and the socialist radical nutcases that are B.O. and Billary. Granted, not my first choice, but Romney is certainly the most conservative candidate left… He could really shore up his case by naming fellow Thompson, Fred as his running mate!
Ultimately, my optimism is not generating from the possibilities of a Romney/Thompson ticket that holds the White House. My optimism is coming from where it should… My Lord and Savior. No matter what happens in the Fall of 2008, it will be according to his design. It may not be what I want to happen… It may be what I judge to be of great harm to this land I love… But ultimately, it is in his hands and will work out according to his plan.
Optimism regained. Thank the Lord.
