America is the land of opportunity. Furthermore, America is a land built on the influx of peoples from other countries that assimilated into the emerging American culture. My family can claim its Scotch-Irish, Dutch, German, and Swedish roots that trace back as recent as the late 1800’s to pre-American Revolution. I have absolutely no problem with individuals and families from other countries wanting to pursue the American dream, legally.
The United States of America has a set process by which folks from foreign lands can live, work, and even become naturalized citizens. What I have problem with are people who avoid that process, break our laws, and come to our country by “jumping line”. These people are invading our country. It is no different, save guns and ammo, from a foreign power invading our land. These law breakers (I do not refer to them as illegal immigrants, this denotes the suggestion that they should stay despite their method of arrival.) come to our country and drain tax-payer provided resources meant for legal citizens. They are occupying our land without the use of force. It is obscene and wrong.
The current plan proposed by the President and members from both sides of the worthless political system is ridiculous. Giving amnesty to these invaders would be like giving a pass to the insurgents on our soil. What message does it send to give millions of lawbreakers a pat on the head?
Here’s what the plan of our nation should be… I think we should first and foremost enforce existing legislation. Second, we should clamp our borders shut by whatever means necessary. It is insane that we are fighting a Global War on Terrorism to protect our Homeland and any John, Jane, or Juan can stroll into this country with ease. Third, we impose new extreme and strict penalties on employers who hire these invaders. These consequences should be so severe that anyone would be crazy to hire a foreign invader. This would go along way to draining dry the resources that these marauders have… I suspect that an eventual reduction in the occupiers would occur. This would be the result of folks leaving or being deported.
To do less than this is pitiful. To give these invaders amnesty sticks up a big middle finger up to the thousands of people who respect our laws and are coming to this country legally. It also throws crap in the faces of Americans who are expecting protection and equity in the use of their hard earned tax dollars.
I know my approach may sound harsh. It may sound like I’m completely forgetting that many of these lawbreakers are otherwise hardworking decent people with families. I’m not forgetting this. I just think that the sanctity of our country should be protected. I don’t think we should reward lawbreakers; Amnesty in the form of guest worker programs is a shameful. We should do better.
