Our Fight: Perserve our Liberty & Freedom

In the most recent issue of the Limbaugh Letter Rush dares to do something that the so called mainstream media refuses to do, he published photos of 9/11. These photos, along with commentary, remind us of the terror of that day and the reason we are at war. A particular comment struck me… Rush related the fact that the terrorists have given a military rank to Hurricane Katrina due to her mass destruction and killing in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. This comment sent shivers down my spine. The terrorists that have infiltrated Iraq, enjoy sanctuary in Syria and Iran, and have planted themselves in our neighborhoods want to kill us… They want to blow up my family and friends and cut my head off. They don’t just want us to be afraid, they want us dead. I don’t know about you, but I take that personally. I have sat hostage in a room with no escape, faced with a crazed murderer who says he going to kill me… I know the terror of seeing murder and fearing murder. Thank God for his protection and for like minded citizens that realize we have to fight for our survival.I recently watched a speech that Tom Clancy gave to some think tank. He was asked what can be done to curb the threat of terrorism in the world. I had the feeling the person asking the question expected Mr. Clancy to rattle off a list of political and military strategies that would see great success (and that the President has failed to do). I think the room was taken aback by Mr. Clancy’s answer. His response was the spread of Liberty and Democracy across the world. He talked about the widespread affect that a stable, democratic Iraq would have in the Middle East. The answer to the question about curbing terrorism, the Bush Doctrine.

I bring up these two points to make a central point. Hurricane Katrina and Judge Roberts are dominating the news at present. Many Americans focus on what Katie and Matt are talking about that day, as if it is the only thing of importance. My central point is that we are in a fight for to maintain our Freedom and Liberty, don’t let the “if it bleeds, it leads” and the “tear down President Bush” story lines distract you from that point…ever.

Major Misconceptions

Misconception #1: America disapproves of the War on Terrorism and the Reconstruction of Iraq

On the way to work today I heard David Letterman’s Top 10 list from last night (played every morning on 630 WLAP at about 7:45am). The subject of the list was the top ten ways Osama Bin Laden could raise his popularity as a terrorist. The list contained the usual jab at the President. What struck me was the fact that ten days shy of the four-year anniversary of 9/11 we are joking about the mass-murderer responsible for that awful day. The media pummels the citizenry with lies, distortions, and every negative story about the War on Terrorism. This pile on is an attempt to foster a feeling of easiness and disconnect with the fact that we were attacked and can be attacked again at anytime. The LibDems and their willing partners, the Old Media have saturated the airwaves, internet, and print media with stories designed to curtail America’s desire to stay strong and fight back. President Bush, once considered a hero by most Americans because his tough stance, is now ridiculed and beguiled for the Reconstruction of Iraq. Apparently it has reached the point in this country that terrorists who kill us should be joked about and the War on Terrorism is an overreaction to an event we never even see pictures of anymore.

I’m glad that this is not the accurate portrayal of my America. In actuality most Americans are still pissed off about 9/11 and want the President to stay strong and keep fighting. A recent poll seemed to suggest that Americans disapproved of the Reconstruction of Iraq. The Old Media reported the poll results that way so of course it’s true.. NOT! The poll asked those questioned if they approved of the handling of the war and the majority responded no.. When asked why the didn’t think it was being handled well the majority response was that the actions being taken were not harsh or quick enough. So in other words most Americans do support the War on Terrorism and the Reconstruction of Iraq, unfortunately those in the Old Media do not….

Misconception #2: The President and the Government are responsible for high Gas prices.

In a recent blog entry I discussed the cause of high prices of gas. I left out an important point. In addition to Katrina and the supply & demand issues an additional cause of high prices is the problems with distribution in the country. We have old refineries and have not built a new one in years. We rely on a handful of places to produce our gas and we place insane environmental restrictions on the gas production. This creates a slow, high tech process that chokes to a crawl the influx of gas. Throw in the devastation of Katrina, the low supply available and being produced, and you’ve got some big time gas prices.

Misconception #3: The President is on a five-week vacation.

Every President in recent history has taken time away from Washington during the month of August. D.C. is basically shut down during that time, so little business can be done. The President, any President is never on vacation. Yes, President Bush has been in Crawford for a few weeks. But he has been to several of the western states on Presidential business and giving speeches. He has continued to receive daily briefings and have meetings with his Cabinet and senior staff. The President does not have to sit in the White House everyday so we can live. He doesn’t get up in the morning and flip a switch to turn the country on every day. Everyday Americans make this country run. The President, whoever he or she is, is the Chief Executive Officer of the Government. He sets the agenda and monitors that it is being carried out. In this day of technology he could be on a tropical islands with a laptop and a satellite phone and run the country. This, like the War on Terrorism and the high gas prices are all vehicles being used to try and discredit the President. Grow up Media.
