The recent spikes in gas prices, coupled with the two-year rise in these prices caused one of my lovable Liberal friends to comment that he needed to send Mr. Bush a letter about the situation. I snickered at this statement to myself. This is typical liberal explanation for a problem. The price of gas goes up, it’s the Republican President’s fault. If the price of gas goes up with a LibDem President, well then it’s the Republican Congress and Corporations fault.
In this we find one of the major, inherent differences in ideology. LibDems believe that government controls or should control all. It is from this premise that they view what’s good and bad in the world. So many times I’ve heard a LibDem cry that kids aren’t being educated properly or people can’t survive on the cuts that a Republican President or Congress has made. The truth of the matter is that the people have made this decision by electing these men and women to represent them in matters that the government can influence. The people of this country are saying that they expect the government to take care of what it should and that their fellow citizens should take care of their responsibilities. Does this mean that starving, uneducated kids are not our problem? NO! We as a society should help provide for those who can’t provide for themselves. The critical point is that this does not have to be done through the LibDem God, Government. Society has tools that it can use to help those in actual need. Charities, Churches, and Civic groups are all capable of helping those in need, and let’s not forget the act of being neighborly. The big difference between folks like me and the LibDems is that we understand it is the people of this country that make it great, that dictate its actions, and decide its fate. We are not involved in the War on Terrorism because the President wants us to be… We are involved because a majority of the people in this country understands how important it is, that’s why they re-elected the President.
Just for the record, Gas prices are high because demand is insatiable and supply is low. The Iraqi oil production is behind schedule. OPEC has intentionally cut back to make money. Strikes by workers in Nigeria and Venezuela, coupled with damaged pipelines in Venezuela, have caused a drastic drop in supply. In addition, the booming economy here at home and in Asia have caused a demand unlike the world has every seen. Throw in the fact that the LibDems won’t let us drill for oil in our own country, like in parts of remote Alaska where estimates are 30 years of crude exists, and you have a crisis. The only thing Mr. Bush could do to ease oil prices is do what Bubba Clinton was unwilling to, temporarily freeze gas taxes to ease prices, or invade and conquer (not liberate) some Middle Eastern oil rich countries. Or maybe we could take over South America? People, get a grip, understand that the President, Congress, and Judiciary does not control your choice of breakfast cereal, and get on with life!!!!!!!I feel a Howard Dean scream coming on……..
